Menu Design

Haiku is an Asian fine-dining restaurant that serves authentic cuisine from Japan, Korea, Vietnam, China, Thailand and other East Asian countries.

Our engagement with Haiku started with the brand positioning, brand strategy and the creation of the brand identity and visual language. We then applied the brand language to create a beautiful menu for the restaurant.

Our approach to designing the menu was informed by these thoughts:

  1. Most menus are lists – which is terrible – because it creates no visual hierarchy.
  2. Our visual language for the brand was inspired to some extent by the publishing aesthetic – magazines and newspapers – drawing the reader in.

The result of this approach was a menu that is a visual treat of high contrast typography and beautifully dense layouts.

Produced as individual leaves (that easily be replaced individually) the menu comes together on a vintage-ish clipboard.
